The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society says their International Elastomer Conference (IEC), is to be held virtually, instead of in person in Knoxville, Tennessee, as was previously planned. The IEC will be held on October 19 to 23, 2020.
It was felt that cancelling the in-person event was the safest and most responsible action, in light of the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.
The organizers say that though it will now have a digital format, the IEC will “continue to be an event where connections are made, knowledge is shared, new products, new technology and new ideas are introduced, business is conducted, developed and gained, fun is had, encouragement and empowerment happen, and the future is embraced.” The IEC is the leading place where educators, customers, manufacturers and suppliers of materials, equipment, tools and services come together, says the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society, pointing out that historically, the event is the time that the best of the Rubber industry gathers under one roof. The IEC provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, observations, regulatory reforms and emerging scientific technologies, as well as learning, networking, seeing current customers and making new ones.
The schedule for the five-day IEC includes interesting events such as the Company Showcase, which has been tailored to function in the virtual format. It will feature a wide variety of companies- including equipment manufacturers, injection moulders, extruders, custom mixers, processing equipment, hydraulic presses, vacuum moulding, testing labs, distributors, suppliers, and many more. The Company Showcase will present an opportunity to learn all about what these companies have to offer.
Virtual Technical Meetings will be held during the IEC, which will include a combination of presentations – Live and On Demand. Live presentations will be made available On Demand after 24 hours - pending approval from the speaker. Attendees will have access to the virtual platform until January 20, 2021.
The Educational Symposium at the IEC will also include a combination of courses – Live and On Demand. Live presentations will be made available On Demand after 24 hours. Course registrants will have access to the virtual platform until January 20, 2021.
A “Women in Rubber” event will focus on the issue of ‘Adapting and Evolving’. According to the organizers, it will start with a panel discussion featuring three exceptional women sharing their experiences regarding the topic. The panellists are Ms. Laura Duda, Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company; Ms. Carin Helfer, Research Assistant Professor, The Ohio State University CFAES and Ms. Jessica Petras, President, ChemRep, Inc. The group of attendees will then move to virtual breakout rooms where topic questions will be asked and discussed. Active participation to generate conversation is encouraged. This event is designed to create an opportunity for the women of the rubber industry to get together, have conversations, share experiences, give/get advice and network. The moderator will be Ms. Yan Maschke, Strategy & Leadership Advisor, Yan Maschke Group.
The 17th Annual Student Colloquium at the IEC will include oral presentations by graduates, undergraduates and co-op students, as well as posters.
A virtual 5K Walk/Run will be held October 19 through 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22. Those wishing to participate can sign up during registration.
